Charlie Don't Surf! Are a Rock cover band from Sheffield formed in 2002.

Original members Andy , Andy & Mark, played in many locally successful original rock bands in the early eighties Including Panza Division, Lonely Hearts, Seventh Son & Shaeffer to name a few. All three went to the same school, with the two Andy's playing in a couple of early bands together.

Recognising their enthusiasm for rock music after a meeting during the summer of 2002, they decided to start playing, rehearsing weekly for around a year and then were persuaded to do a gig in Barnsley which went so well it was decided to do more gigs.

2004 was a year of ups, downs & tragedy losing two drummers in the early part of the year; a few personal crises along the way but nothing was to prepare them for what was about to happen. The year was ending on a high with many successful gigs in the surrounding area, after they had been joined by drummer Steve Mitchell. Steve first played with Andy in a successful period with Panza Division & The Lonely Hearts and they always had a great understanding, when the drum stool became free again! Steve had been found in Doncaster and stepped in at late notice and the band felt like it was complete. On December the 30th 2004 Andy spoke to Steve, he was out in Doncaster having a beer and was in great form, looking forward to New Years Eve…. By 8.00PM that evening Steve was dead after a massive heart attack. The band or the hundreds of friends that turned out at his funeral will never forget Steve…RIP Steve.

After a month of silence from the band, it was decided to get their arses into gear and get some work done, sparked by the availability of our old friend and drummer Alan. All gigs had been cancelled until March except the local Sheffield venue The Birley Hotel, who refused to cancel, giving them a date that the had to work to, this was achieved by some busy rehearsal sessions and Alan being a very fast learner. The gig went very well and it was great to be back.

2005 is looking busy again for the band after June, with many gigs booked in already and many new venues to try out for the first time.

Charlie Don't Surf! aim to go out and play the best rock music with a show that is enthusiastic, hopefully enjoyable & realistic to the people who come along.
